Improved Quality of Life for Laura
"I would not be here today, had it not been for Therapy." Our success story comes to us from Laura, a long-term resident, who became ill followed by a series of Hospitalizations and Severe Depression. Laura had previously been able to walk short distances, Independent with personal care, was w/c mobile within the facility, and had enjoyed socializing with other residents and staff often participating in activities. In lieu of her illness, depression, and medical complications, Laura, with her quiet demeanor, became reclusive and bedbound. She had all but given up. Our Therapy staff patiently encouraged and assisted Laura to get out of bed, participate in therapy, and facilitated reengagement in socialization. Therapy then presented the idea of aquiring a power w/c due to her dependence on staff for transport which contributed to disengagement in the quality of life persuits she had previously enjoyed. Intrigued by this idea, Laura worked even harder in therapy, and her disposition became more positive. The Power w/c was aquired. Laura was trained to utilize the power w/c within the facility and outdoors, to transfer to/from, & safety measures. Now under her own volition, Laura again participates in socialization/facility events, going outside in her power w/c chair to sit under the shade of trees to enjoy quiet moments for reading, uses her power chair for Community access traveling to local stores, and is now the President of Resident Council! Laura has also regained her Independence with ADLs and Ambulation per her prior skill level, and has attained a Quality of Life that has surpassed what she had previously known. "I am so thankful for Therapy... they gave me my life back!" Thank You, Laura, for allowing Therapy the opportunity to work with you, and share in your success.
